Custom Stone Entrance Signs for HOAs and Neighborhood Communities
Boulder Designs by TUSA Team
A neighborhood entrance sign sets the tone for every resident, visitor and potential buyer. A faded wood sign or cracked panel quietly tells people the community isn't cared for, while a well-designed stone entrance says the opposite. This guide walks HOA boards, property managers and developers through planning custom stone HOA entrance signs, from design to approval to installation.
Why HOAs Choose Stone Entrance Signs
- They last. Engraved lettering won't peel, and our engineered stone is made to resist cracking and fading.
- Low maintenance. No repainting or re-lettering, which matters when every dollar comes from dues.
- Property values and curb appeal. A strong entrance makes a neighborhood easier to find and more memorable.
- Hard to damage. Stone stands up to weather, string trimmers and the occasional bumper.
Step 1: Assess the Site
Before design starts, walk the entrance and note:
- Which directions traffic approaches from (one-way or two-way visibility).
- The speed of the road. Faster roads need larger letters.
- Existing landscaping, walls, trees and irrigation.
- Sight lines for drivers pulling out. Signs shouldn't block the view of oncoming traffic.
- Utilities and right-of-way. Call 811 before any digging.
Step 2: Choose a Sign Style
Single boulder
A large engraved boulder in the entrance median or on one side of the road. Clean, natural and cost-effective.
Paired boulders
Matching stones on both sides of the entrance. Ideal for two-way roads and divided entrances.
Boulder with pedestal or columns
A raised stone on pedestals or framed by stone columns for a more formal, upscale look.
See examples on our subdivision stone entrance signs page.
Step 3: Design for Readability
- Community name first. Keep it the largest element.
- Limit the words. Name, maybe a logo and "Est." year. Skip phone numbers and long taglines.
- Use high contrast. Dark-filled letters on a lighter stone read best.
- Simplify logos. Fine detail may be adjusted so it stays crisp in stone.
Step 4: Plan the Budget
For reference, our commercial rocks start at $2,300 for a medium 48" x 44" rock, $2,800 with a pedestal and $5,000 for a large 72" x 48" rock, delivery included. A second engraved side adds 30%. Larger multi-piece entrances and columns are quoted by size. See our pricing page.
Tip for boards: because a stone sign doesn't need repainting, it's often easier to justify in a reserve study than a cheaper sign that needs regular upkeep.
Step 5: Get Approvals
Most HOA entrance projects need a board vote, and many also need a town sign or zoning permit. Our free design mockup gives your board a clear visual and dimensions to approve, and you can include it with a permit application. Towns like Cary have especially detailed sign standards, so check early.
Step 6: Installation
Large entrance stones are set on pedestals or a footing. We coordinate delivery and setting, and any custom footer is provided by the HOA or quoted separately. Commercial and multi-piece projects typically take about 4 to 6 weeks, longer if permits are involved.
Refreshing an Older Entrance
Many established neighborhoods across Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Burlington have entrance signs that have faded or cracked. A new engraved stone can often be sized to fit the existing bed and landscaping, giving the community a fresh look without a full redesign.
Where We Build HOA Entrance Signs
We work with HOAs, management companies and builders across Wake County, Durham County, Orange County and Alamance County. Fast-growing towns like Holly Springs, Apex, Fuquay-Varina and Mebane have many new communities, while established neighborhoods in Raleigh, Cary and Burlington often need replacement signs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you match our HOA's existing logo?
Yes. We engrave and color-fill logos to match your branding, and you approve a free mockup first.
Do you work with developers on new communities?
Yes. We build entrance signs and can supply matching address stones for homes in new neighborhoods.
How do we pay?
A 50% deposit starts production after design approval, with the balance due before delivery or installation.
Will the sign need lighting?
Many HOAs add ground-mounted landscape lighting so the entrance is visible at night.
