How Much Do Custom Engraved Boulders Cost in North Carolina?

Boulder Designs by TUSA Team
Custom engraved commercial boulder sign in Central North Carolina

If you're pricing a custom engraved boulder, you've probably noticed most companies won't put a number on their website. We do. Below are the actual starting prices from our pricing page for engraved boulders, address rocks, columns, benches and headstones in North Carolina, along with the factors that move a quote up or down.

All of our pieces are made from our engineered stone formula, which is designed to resist cracking and fading in North Carolina's heat, humidity and winter freezes. Every project starts with a free design mockup, so you see the finished look and the price before you pay anything.

Quick Answer: Typical Engraved Boulder Prices

For most homeowners in Central NC, an engraved address or name rock costs between $300 and $2,300. Commercial boulder signs typically run $2,300 to $5,000 or more. Here's how that breaks down.

Residential name and address yard rocks

  • Medium yard rock (20" x 20" x 5"): $300. Delivery is not included on this size.
  • Medium name rock (20" x 20" x 5"): $300.
  • Large yard rock with pedestal (44" x 36" x 7.5"): $2,300 with delivery, or $1,800 without the pedestal.

Patriotic yard rocks

  • Small eagle flag (25" x 25" x 4"): $350 with delivery.
  • Medium eagle flag with number (30" x 28" x 5"): $500 with delivery.

Commercial boulder signs

  • Medium commercial rock (48" x 44" x 7.5"): $2,300 with delivery.

  • Large commercial rock (72" x 48" x 7.5", with 23" x 23" x 18" pedestals): $5,000 with delivery.

Any rock can be made two-sided. Adding a name or artwork to the second side adds 30%. Learn more about our commercial boulder signs.

What Affects the Cost of an Engraved Boulder?

1. Size

Size is the biggest factor. A 20-inch yard rock and a 72-inch commercial sign use very different amounts of material and need different equipment to move and set. Bigger stones also need a stronger base.

2. One side or two

Stones near a road that's driven in both directions often work best two-sided. That adds 30% for the second side, but it can save you from buying two separate signs.

3. Artwork and design complexity

Simple numbers and a name are the most affordable. Logos, photos, detailed artwork or multiple colors take more design and production time. We'll simplify very fine detail so it stays crisp once engraved.

4. Pedestals, footings and installation

Residential pieces are usually placed with simple installation. Large commercial stones are set on pedestals or a footing. If your site needs a custom footer, it's either provided by you or quoted separately.

5. Lighting

Our solar LED panel adds $850 but means no trenching or wiring, and the photocell turns it on at dusk automatically. See illuminated address signs.

6. Delivery

Most of our prices include delivery within our Central NC service area. A few items, like the medium yard rock and drink dispensers, are priced without delivery and we'll quote that separately.

Engineered Stone vs. Natural Boulders: Does It Change the Price?

Natural boulders vary wildly in shape, and finding one with a flat, usable face for lettering can mean extra hauling, cutting and labor. Our engineered stone gives us control over the shape and face from the start, which keeps pricing predictable and the lettering easy to read. Read our comparison of engineered stone vs. traditional signs.

Prices Across Central North Carolina

Our prices are the same whether you're in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Burlington or out in rural Caswell County. Delivery is included on most pieces within our service area, so a farm in Hurdle Mills pays the same as a home in Cary. What does change by location is site work: rocky or sloped ground, permit requirements in towns like Cary and Raleigh, and HOA rules can all affect the final scope.

How to Save Money on an Engraved Boulder

  • Choose one side unless traffic truly comes from both directions.
  • Keep the design simple. A name and number cost less to design than a detailed scene.
  • Skip the pedestal on a large yard rock to save $500.
  • Bundle pieces. Ordering an address rock and a mailbox column together keeps the look consistent and simplifies delivery.
  • Approve your proof quickly to avoid repeated revision cycles.
